The church is situated in a beautiful part of the Berkshire countryside a short distance from the market town of Newbury.  It is a mediæval church built on Saxon Foundations; it was the mother church of Newbury.  In 1086 it was recorded in the Domesday Book.  It was extended substantially in the Victorian era by the Revd Henry Majendie.
